Match Report

Saints 3 - 2 Woodley Kestrels

Our first local derby, and what a game it was. It was straight into the fire then for our new signing SStr who was kitted out and ready to play.

With two very well organised teams, it was definitely our hardest test so far, but the boys, as always did not disappoint us, with some big corners coming in from CT, it was only a matter of time before someone got on the end of one, cue TH to smash one home early on. Before long the Kestrels had pulled one back but the lads didn't let that phase them. They remained strong and after a scramble in the box, OD rifled in what seemed an unstoppable shot only to see the keeper produce a stunning save. However, up popped a composed TP to stick the ball in the back of the net. Now it’s 2-1 to the mighty Saints just before half time.

Second half begins just as even as the first, although CP came out on pitch with TH returning between the sticks. Before long CT hits one in the back of the net through a crowded box (That's 8 goals in 6 games!) 3-1 to the Saints and I'm beginning to the think that this is going to be easy. How wrong I was! A great last ditch tackle from TP only prolonged the inevitable. Another Kestrels goal, 3-2 to the Saints. All hands on deck then as TP (I know I am mentioning him a lot but hey, he's my boy) drops back to give MF some support (This does usually mean that TP will wander up front though).

The last 10 minutes proved to be end to end stuff with both sides looking for the next goal. Some superb counter attacks from CP, showing the crowd his pace, were matched by an equally determined Kestrels keeper. With just 5 minutes on the clock, RS started the move of the match with a long throw down the line on the left to JB who produced a tantalizing cross for CP to side foot home. Only a well timed, last ditch challenge from the Kestrels defender to kept CP from finding the net.

We hold out to the end in what was a very good game with a great team performance, the team is really starting to gel and now even the Kestrels manager commented on how well organised the boys were. Credit where credits due, Lee is doing a great job as manager and along with his brother Chris they are doing a great job of coaching the boys and keeping it fun! cheers boys. All we need now is to stop getting in each others way!

Player by Player

SSrt looked very comfortable in the team and a very strong player. A great addition.
JB is really picking up the pace now and making a real difference to the team.
CP had some great runs, if only they had come to his left foot the score may have been very different.
SSaw is really coming along now and getting very involved, some great wing play today
OD almost got off the mark today with his first goal, keep plugging away and it will come.
CT as always a very creative influence on the pitch.
MF had lots to do today and made some great tackles.
TP played everywhere and played well.
TH got another goal, and is really starting to smash the ball out at goal kicks.
RS man of the match can I say any more, strong, determined and like a pit bull!!!!! in the nicest way of course.

Player of the week

This weeks Player of the week went to RS who's consistency and dogged determination has help to earn us our undefeated record in the league so far, he has developed so quickly into and indispensable member of the team, without his determination, tackling and passing I am sure we would not have achieved our result this week. Well done RS!
