Match Report
Tigers 4 v Wrightchoice 0
What started off as a cold crisp day soon brightened up to be deceptively warm. Great football weather for all concerned.
This game saw the Tigers matched against previous conquerors Wrightchoice. The first match in Division 2 was dominated by Wrightchoice who ran out deserved 4-0 winners.
This time around, in Division 1, the Tigers had their pride to regain and they weren't going to give in so easily.
The squad was a strong one with everybody available for selection this week. That meant the side consisted of Thomas, Max, Reiss, Toby, Sam, Cameron, Jake, Joe and Callum. Sam and Toby started the match as subs.
Wrightchoice were listed as the away team so they had kick off. From the start, you could tell that this would be an even game as both sides tried to win the midfield battle. This time around, the Tigers were challenging for the first and second ball whereas in their previous encounter they let Wrightchoice win most tackles. At the back, Thomas, Max and Reiss looked in control with Joe sitting just in front marshalling the midfield. Jake and Cameron were finding space and Callum was having one of his better games by closing down the opposition defenders when they had possession.
With the game 10 minutes old, Sam and Toby came on for Jake and Callum in straight swaps. This change gave the Wrightchoice star defender another challenge to think about and it was Sam who eventually broke the deadlock. A tackle won in midfield by Cameron who set Sam off on a sprint. A fortuitous rebound off the last man saw Sam through one on one with the keeper where he made no mistake, dropping his shoulder, sending the keeper the wrong way and firmly planting his shot away. Good finish. 1-0.
The game continued end to end with both sides pushing for the next goal although neither keeper was rarely troubled. Halftime 1-0 Tigers.
The second half saw Jake and Callum return with Cameron and Reiss making way. The second half also meant that the Tigers were playing with the sun on their backs meaning the Wrightchoice keeper had another problem to deal with. The sun!
This half continued where the first ended, a good competitive match with both sides trying their best. With about 5 minutes gone, a slick through ball from (Max or Joe I'm not sure which one!) saw Callum past the last defender. Callum turned and started to sprint towards goal, the crowd were cheering (especially his mum and dad) and what seemed like too far out, Callum hit the shot as he felt the defender would catch him. At that point, the crowd went a bit silent as the shot wasn't Callum's most powerful. However, as mentioned above, the sun had an important role to play and the keeper couldn't keep track of the ball as it sped past him. 2-0 and time for Callum's dying swan goal celebration!
At 2-0 up the Tigers started to attack a bit more with Max coming into midfield looking to unleash one of his rocket shots. The Tigers players were now more relaxed and starting to show one or two skills they've picked up in the past few months with drag backs, step overs, feints and back heels all on display. (And that was just Thomas!) Not to be outdone by his mate, Jake got in on the scoring act, sneaking his shot in at the near post and putting his side 3-0 ahead. After this goal the Wrightchoice heads went down a little and some further Tigers pressure saw Callum notch his second of the game.
Final score 4-0 Tigers
MOTM - Cameron - Captain leading by example and instrumental in setting up the important first goal
