Tigers 0 - 4 Wrightchoice
TIGERS TAMED BY LEAGUE NEWBOYS
By SpongeBob
Woodley Tigers lost their unbeaten record after a hard fought game in front of a big crowd at Woodford Park. Newly promoted WrightChoice looked a promising outfit and ran out convincing 4-0 winners.
Team manager Lee Bennett was forced into a few changes ahead of the game. "Safe Hands" TH was unavailable for selection and JJ pulled on the green jersey for his first game in goal. MF and SStr formed a new powerhouse midfield partnership with rising star CT moving up front. CP showed his versatility by slipping into central defence. The remainder of the team were unchanged.
Straight from the kick off Wrightchoice looked tight at the back and were quick to the loose ball. A defensive error led to the first goal as Tigers failed to clear thier lines despite an excellent attempt and dive from JJ.
Tigers heads remained high as they surged forward from the restart with excellent work from SStr and MF in the tight midfield area. Halfway through the first half JB and TP combined well to put CT through but the star striker pulled his shot wide. For the second goal Tigers were guilty of not concentrating in defence as the pacy WrightChoice striker was left unmarked and stole in with a low shot just out of the reach of an unlucky JJ.
The second goal upset the Tigers and they were soon three down when a poor throw in caught out the defence and allowed the WrightChoice winger to steal in at the far post. Soon afterwards a tired looking CP limped off for critical treatment from the overworked physio. A shell shocked and deshevelled Tigers were relieved to be hear the half time whistle.
This was unknown territory for Tigers and as expected coach Lee Benett was forced into rearranging his team with TP pulling on the green jersey and CP moving back to his favoured striking position. Soon after the kick off an excellent long ball from MF put an alert CT through but again he was unlucky to find the WrightChoice keeper in good form. MG was working hard in the middle and JB was putting his foot in where only brave men go. However, WrightChoice stole another goal when their best player and defensive talisman powered a superb long range effort into the top corner from outside the box. TP was solid and confident in goal and caught the eye as he made a string of top drawer saves to keep the scores respectable. The game continued with many hard tackles and much hard work coming from the fast improving SS. Late in the game an excellent takle from tough tackling MG had the crowd on their feet and the midfield dynamo RS rounded off another hard working performance with a great through ball for CT. Clean through on goal and with only the keeper to beat the crowd were once again surprised to see CT shot fizz past the upright.
Tigers worked hard in the face of some scintilating football from WrightChoice who impressed on their league debut. Near the end of the game Man of the Match CP was carried off after a late tackle.
This was a dissapointing result for the Tigers who will need to regroup and work hard next week to get back into winning ways. After the game Coach Lee Bennett said "Loosing hurts but we lost to a good side. My boys worked hard and I was proud of them all."
