Match Report

Lions 0 - Whiteknights Blues 2

Lions 0 - Whiteknights Whites 1

Following the withdrawal of Bracknell Cavaliers, Whiteknights kindly agreed to bring their friendly match forward a couple of weeks to give the guys a game. With OD and SSaw missing, the Lions had 7 available players although CP once again agreed to take up the role between the sticks. Also to make a guest appearance was JS, a neighbour of CP who only came up to watch the match!

Whiteknights had 14 players available so it was agreed to play 3 mini tournament style matches of 6 minutes each way with penalties at the end.

The first match saw the Lions face the Whiteknights Blues. To ensure everyone got a game, the Lions started with 8 players; CP in goal, DG and JL in defence, HD, EN and JB in midfield with TT and captain, JJ up front. This formation soon changed with Toby taking up the Gerrard type free role.

The match proved to be pretty even although the Lions only occasionally got near the Blues keeper. Plenty of good tackling from JL and DG but HD and EN were a bit crowded in the middle of the park with JJ rarely seeing the ball. TT and JS continued to battle away but the Blues struck twice and the game finished 2-0.

The second match was the Lions against the Whites and this proved a much closer game. JS came into the game in goal and CP took up his favoured position of striker. The rest of the team remained in the same positions except JL whose industry was moved into midfield and JJ, who dropped back to add some experience to the defence.

JS long kicks from in goal made all the difference early on and the Lions were effectively counter attacking the Whites. A couple of good saves from the Whites keeper but Lions were unable to find a way past.

Eventually the Whites experience told and they found the back of the net past a despairing JS dive. Final whistle 1-0 to the Whites.

The penalties were a bit more difficult this week against a good Whiteknights keeper. However, good strikes from JJ, TT and JS were noted by the Lions management team. HD, EN, JL, DG, Jack and CP all struck good efforts as well.

MOTM - TT.
