Tigers Supreme in face of Panthers attack
Yesterday Callum (with me) and Alex (with Jane) ran the Green Park Challenge prior to my attempt to complete the Reading Half Marathon. This was a 3km (2miles) Family fun run ending in the Madejski Stadium and open to all age groups. There were 887 finishers.
Woodley Saints Panthers (and many parents) were using the even as a opportunity to raise funds. However, the Pitfield boys were running without charity support and looking for fast times. Pressure was building during the warm up with Callum under attack from the large numbers of Panthers present.
We are delighted to be able to inform our coach that the lone Tiger held off the Panther onslaught.
Callum came in 442th in 16:52 with Alex 845th in 24:51.
Callum's classmates Max Manford (675th) and Max Treacher (471st) ran well for the Panthers, but were unable to keep up with his finishing speed as he sprinted into the stadium. As one of the youngest running Alex got a personal mention on the PA system as he came into the Stadium. I understand this was the loudest cheer heard at the Mad. Stad. for many years.
Thought you may want to consider this excelent event as a good fund raising opportunity for next season. Personally I would pay significant sums to see Dave Preece complete the course without stopping for a cigarette on route!
